Jatuchak Weekend Market

About Jatuchak Market

This market is the most famous market for souvenirs in Bangkok if not whole Asia. With thousands of shops, most visitors are amazed to see so much choice and variety just on one market. It is no surprise that many tourists successfully do their shopping at Jatuchak market. Even though the market area covers a huge space and the shops are well set-up, you have to be aware that it is extremely crowded during the weekends! When you are full of energy and you enjoy shopping, it is definitely the (market) place to visit.

This is largest flea market in all of Thailand. Frequently called J.J., it covers over 35 acres (1.13 km²) and contains upwards of 5,000 stalls and is estimated that the market receives between 200,000 visitors each day. Most stalls only open on Saturdays and Sundays.

This amazing market basically has nearly everything you could ever wish to buy and many things that you would never want to. They have clothes, animals, books, plants, artifacts, unusual things, wooden workings, material, ceramics, baskets, antiques, plastic fruit, silk flowers, antiques, shoes, silver wear, jewelry, houseware, and so many other things it would take too long to list.

The prices are amazing. A recent small craze went around the tourists visiting Bangkok who found wooden frogs that you could rub with a small stick and the frog would sound like its real life copy. These frogs in Bangkok centre were for sale at 150 Baht, in Chatuchak they could be had for around 80 Baht!
